Course Content
The MBA at the UCT GSB is offered as a one-year, full-time course or in a two-year, modular format for delegates who are unable to study full-time.
Course Outline
Both programmes are structured around 15 compulsory core courses that cover the fundamentals of management, such as accounting, finance, marketing, strategy, operations, and organisational behaviour. In addition, students can choose from a range of electives that allow them to tailor their learning to their specific interests and goals. The MBA also includes a capstone project that requires students to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world business problem or opportunity.
The MBA at the UCT GSB is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to become effective and responsible leaders in any context. The programme emphasises critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and ethical decision-making, as well as the development of personal and professional competencies. The MBA also exposes students to diverse perspectives and experiences, both in the classroom and beyond, through a variety of learning methods, such as case studies, simulations, experiential learning, and field trips. The MBA also offers students the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes with partner business schools around the world, or to enrol in specialised courses offered by the UCT GSB’s centres and initiatives, such as the Allan Gray Centre for Values-Based Leadership, the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Development Finance Centre, and the Solution Space.
Entry Requirements
The MBA at the UCT GSB is a highly competitive and selective programme, with aspiring leaders from across Africa and around the world applying for a limited number of places. To apply for the MBA, you need to meet the admission requirements, which include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, a minimum of four years of work experience, a satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and English language proficiency. You also need to submit a personal statement, a curriculum vitae, two references, and a non-refundable application fee.
